The El Nino phenomenon, which is causing an extended dry season, is exacerbating the situation, resulting in deteriorating conditions.
The scarcity of clean water in several regions in Central Java is becoming more widespread. As of early September 2023, it was reported that 310 villages in Central Java have experienced a shortage of clean water, forcing residents to wait in line for hours or walk long distances just to obtain clean water. This situation is expected to persist as the dry season is predicted to last for a long time.
These two phenomena were among the key points discussed seriously at the 9th International Climate Change Conference (ICCC) at Sebelas Maret University on September 27, 2023.
The ICCC forum was a collaboration between Sebelas Maret University and Gifu University, Japan.
